Public Health Alert: H5N1 bird flu

H5N1 bird flu has been a topic of conversation across the country. This is the time of year when birds are migrating between states which can increase the chance for the spread of any disease carried by birds. Some wild birds have tested positive for H5N1 in Illinois and TCHD is closely monitoring potential disease spread in our area.
There are, however, no confirmed human cases in the state and the risk to the general population remains low. With that being said, it's still important to take appropriate precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones.

⚠️ DO NOT TOUCH or try to capture waterfowl or other wild birds displaying illness
⚠️ WASH your hands thoroughly after touching walking shoes or walking surfaces
⚠️ DO NOT SEND dead or dying birds to veterinarians, wildlife refuges, etc.
⚠️ REPORT groups of dead birds. Groups of 1-4 to Tazewell County Animal Control at 309-925-3370. Groups of 5 or more to the Illinois DNR at dnr.illinois.gov/feedback
